Problem:when connecting to the internet using a web proxy.Does AVG have a provision to connect using a proxy address to download updates?
Answer:Yes, AVG does have a provision that allows users to download updates form the internet using a proxy. The proxy however has to be configured.
1.Launch 'AVG user interface.'
2.Click tools/Advanced Settings'.
3.In the left pane select 'Update/Proxy'.
You will now be faced with two options in the proxy box.
*Use proxy:Requires you to specify the proxy address. It will connect using only this address.
*Try connection using proxy and if it fails, connect directly:Selecting this option from the dropdown box will first connect using the proxy. If this fails, it will connect directly.
After selecting one of the above options, you will come across two more options,'Manual' and 'Automatic'.
*Manual:After selecting this option you will have to enter the proxy and port address yourself.Make sure that these values are entered correctly. These can be obtained from your network administrator. If your proxy address requires you to enter a username and password then check the 'Use PROXY Authentication' checkbox. Enter the 'Username' and the 'Password' correctly in the text fields provided below.
*Auto:Selecting this option will not need you to enter the proxy and port addresses manually;instead,it will directly acquire these values from another source. These values can be obtained from your browser, assuming that the values are entered there. The supported browsers include Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Opera. It can also be obtained from a script. The values can also be obtained automatically.Select the appropriate radio buttons from whichever choice you feel suits you best.
Once you are done with the settings, connecting with a proxy will not be a problem anymore.

SYSTEM TIME ERROR AFFECTS UPDATES

Buzz It
submit to reddit StumbleUpon
error report from avg:' computer system seems to be inaccurate. This may lead to false virus database up-to-date reporting. Please correct your system time if possible.'

ANSWER: Avg updates it virus database on a frequent basis.Since these updates are categorized on the basis of the time and date when they were made available for download, keeping track of this activity is crucial for AVG to make sure that their database is up-to-date to counter newer viruses. This time on the taskbar is used as a referral by AVG.
Changing the computer date and time confuses AVG about which downloaded update is the latest. To resolve this you will have to change the system date and time back to its correct values for the updates to be downloaded regularly, and also to make sure that your computer is secure.here is how to go about it:
1.Double-click the date and time icon on the taskbar
2.Change the date and time to the original/correct values and click 'OK' for the changes to take effect
If AVG still shows the same error then you will need to disable the automatic date and time function.to do this
1.Launch AVG anti-virus
2.Click 'Tools/Advance Settings'.
3.Uncheck the 'Check computer time'option

this is supposed to be used as an extreme measure since it can cause your updates to be out of date.
GOOD LUCK:-)

Virus vault has reached limit

when trying to move files to the virus vault AVG showed an error'The Virus Vault has reached the maximum file count limit'.

what to do?
Answer:the error is most likely a flaw in one of the components components of AVG.The main cause of this error is a damaged'vvfolder.idx'file.This file helps AVG keep a count on how many entries have been made to its virus vault.
here's how to overcome this problem,
1.Double click 'my computer'
2.Once Windows Explorer opens up,click 'Tools/Folder Options".
3.In the dialog box that opens up click the 'View, tab.
4.Under 'hidden files and folders' select the 'show hidden files and folders'option
5.Visit the drive in which you have installed AVG and look for the hidden folder named '$AVG8.VAULT$'.For example,'C:\$AVG8.VAULT$'.
6.Delete this folder

the problem should be solved once the folder is deleted.Make sure that you download the most recent updates after this to stay on the safer side.
