Windows 7 Paint Alternative for XP & Vista

Change startup tune and shutdown tune

 

 

Choose the track which you want to play at start-up and shutdown jingles,

Limitations are

* It should be in .WAV format.
* The size of file should not be large, prefer keeping them within in 1 Mb, otherwise your startup will take a bit longer.

Step 1

If the file you want to make your start-up or shutdown is not in .WAV format, you can easily convert them using Jet Audio 7, or any other converter.

Step 2.

Now rename these files as “Windows XP Startup.WAV” and “Windows XP Shutdown.WAV” respectively.

Step 3.

Now Go to “C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA”, here you will find files “Windows XP Startup.WAV” and “Windows XP Shutdown.WAV”, move them to some other locations, this step is required for, in case you need to revert back these sounds, else you can ignore this step.

Step 4.

Now the files you have chosen and renamed, just copy-paste or cut paste them in “C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA”, here you go, now you can enjoy the new Start-up and shutdown.

Know when your computer is last shut down

Problem – You have told your kid that he should not play on the computer till late at night. He should shut it down at 11 and then study since exams are near. He assures you that he will do that and next morning tells you that he did that.

How do you find out if he actually did that ?

If you want to know what was the exact last shutdown time of your computer, then you can find that out using a simple trick. You’d need to go to the Event Viewer in Windows to get that information.

Here are the steps.

Step1. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the start icon and type Event Viewer in the search box. Event viewer program will appear. Click on it.

If you are a Windows XP user, Go to Start> Run. Type eventvwr.msc and click OK button.

Step 2. Event Viewer window will open. Now on the left side of that window click on  “Windows Logs”. Now on the right side, click on System.

Step 3. All the system files will open on the right side. Now on the source column you have to find out Eventlog source having Event ID 6006 (6006 is an event ID for shutdown). You will find many Eventlog sources having event ID 6006. But you need to figure out source with the most recent date and time.

Note: All the events are placed in descending order (latest time first) so the top event log with event ID 6006 will show the correct time and date of last PC shutdown (In this case the time is 1/10/2010 1:06:48 AM).

So the last shut down time of my PC is 1/10/2010 1:06:48 AM.

That’s how you can easily find out when exactly was your computer last shut down.

It becomes a tedious task when you want to login to any windows administrator and it is protected by Administrator password. So, you are blocked from making any changes to computer or installing any software. At such times, it is necessary to hack / reset Windows administrator password. So, I am writing a simple trick to hack/reset Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 administrator password to help you login to any computer protected by Windows administrator password.

Hack/Reset Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 Administrator password:

Windows Key is popular windows password recovery software used to reset windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 administrator password. Simply, boot the system using Windows Key bootable CD or flash drive and you're able to reset windows administrator password.

1. Free Download Windows Key software to reset windows administrator password.

2. The downloaded folder contains image file. Burn it to disc using any image burner software say Nero.

3. Now, when burning process is finished, you have bootable disc ready to hack/reset windows administrator password.

4. Restart your computer and boot via CD/DVD just created. Windows Key will start loading its files and show its interface like this:

5. Windows key will ask you to select the Operating system, account of which you wanna reset administrator password. You have to enter 1, 2 or such numbers corrresponding to your choice.

6. Finally, Windows key will display message "Password has been reset". Now, press any key and computer will be restarted and now, you will be able to login to administrator account without any password. Create a font from your own handwriting

things you need

 you can create a font from your very own handwriting. There's no software to download and install, all you need is a printer and a scanner. Simply fill in the font template, scan and upload it to our website, and download your completed font. The fonts you create using fontcapture.com can be used on both Windows and Mac computers.

The first step is to download and print the font template. It's in PDF format, so you'll need a PDF reader like Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader to open it.

Complete the font template

After printing the font template, it's time to fill it in with your ownhandwriting. For best results it's recommended to use a black marker pen (Sharpie or similar). Make sure to leave a margin around each character.

Each character box has a set of guide marks to help you position the character. The middle one is called the baseline, and is the line on which a letter usually sits. Some letters, such as 'g' or 'q', descend to the descender line. Uppercase letters typically have their highest point on the ascender. It's okay for accents to reach slightly above the ascender, but if you go too far you risk having your characters cut off. It's therefore recommended to keep your characters within the ascender and descender portion of the boxes.

Upload your completed font template

After completing the font template, it's time to scan it. Here's a few tips on how to achieve good results:

• Set your scanner to operate in grayscale or color mode at 200 DPI or higher.
• Save the scanned image in PNG (preferred) or JPG format.
• Make sure you don't scan the template upside down. If you do, rotate the image 180 degrees using an image editor.

Fix Vista & Windows 7 Black Screen of Death Error (BSOD) with Black Screen Fix

Windows 7 is the newest version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs and media center PCs.^[3] Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009,^[4] and general retail availability on October 22, 2009,^[5] less than three years after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista. Windows 7's server counterpart, Windows Server 2008 R2, was released at the same time.
Unlike its predecessor, which introduced a large number of new features, Windows 7 was intended to be a more focused, incremental upgrade to the Windows line, with the goal of being fully compatible with applications and hardware with which Windows Vista is already compatible.^[6] Presentations given by Microsoft in 2008 focused on multi-touch support, a redesigned Windows Shell with a new taskbar, referred to as the Superbar, a home networking system called HomeGroup,^[7] and performance improvements. Some applications that have been included with prior releases of Microsoft Windows, including Windows Calendar, Windows Mail, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Photo Gallery, are not included in Windows 7;^[8][9] some are instead offered separately as part of the free Windows Live Essentials suite.^[10]

Windows 7 includes a number of new features, such as advances in touch and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, improved performance on multi-core processors,^{[33][34][35][36]} improved boot performance, DirectAccess, and kernel improvements. Windows 7 adds support for systems using multiple heterogeneous graphics cards from different vendors (Heterogeneous Multi-adapter), a new version of Windows Media Center,^[37] a Gadget for Windows Media Center, improved media features, the XPS Essentials Pack and Windows PowerShell being included, and a redesigned Calculator with multiline capabilities including Programmer and Statistics modes along with unit conversion. Many new items have been added to the Control Panel, including ClearType Text Tuner, Display Color Calibration Wizard, Gadgets, Recovery, Troubleshooting, Workspaces Center, Location and Other Sensors, Credential Manager, Biometric Devices, System Icons, and Display.^[38] Windows Security Center has been renamed to Windows Action Center (Windows Health Center and Windows Solution Center in earlier builds), which encompasses both security and maintenance of the computer. ^[39] Microsoft's Windows kernel engineer Mark Russinovich acknowledged the problem, but noted that there are other vulnerabilities that do not rely on the new setting.^[40] Windows 7 also supports Mac-like RAW image viewing through the addition of WIC-enabled image decoders, which enables raw image thumbnails, previewing and metadata display in Windows Explorer, plus full-size viewing and slideshows in Windows Photo Viewer and Window Media Center.^[41]
The taskbar has seen the biggest visual changes, where the Quick Launch toolbar has been replaced with pinning applications to the taskbar. Buttons for pinned applications are integrated with the task buttons. These buttons also enable the Jump Lists feature to allow easy access to common tasks.^[42] The revamped taskbar also allows the reordering of taskbar buttons. To the far right of the system clock is a small rectangular button that serves as the Show desktop icon. This button is part of the new feature in Windows 7 called Aero Peek. Hovering over this button makes all visible windows transparent for a quick look at the desktop.^[43] In touch-enabled displays such as touch screens, tablet PCs, etc., this button is slightly wider to accommodate being pressed with a finger.^[44] Clicking this button minimizes all windows, and clicking it a second time restores them. Additionally, there is a feature named Aero Snap, that automatically maximizes a window when it is dragged to either the top or left/right edges of the screen.^[45] This also allows users to snap documents or files on either side of the screen to compare them. When a user moves windows that are maximized, the system restores their previous state automatically. This functionality is also accomplished with keyboard shortcuts. Unlike in Windows Vista, window borders and the taskbar do not turn opaque when a window is maximized with Windows Aero applied. Instead, they remain transparent.

For developers, Windows 7 includes a new networking API with support for building SOAP-based web services in native code (as opposed to .NET-based WCF web services),^[46] new features to shorten application install times, reduced UAC prompts, simplified development of installation packages,^[47] and improved globalization support through a new Extended Linguistic Services API.^[48] At WinHEC 2008 Microsoft announced that color depths of 30-bit and 48-bit would be supported in Windows 7 along with the wide color gamut scRGB (which for HDMI 1.3 can be converted and output as xvYCC). The video modes supported in Windows 7 are 16-bit sRGB, 24-bit sRGB, 30-bit sRGB, 30-bit with extended color gamut sRGB, and 48-bit scRGB.^[49][50] Microsoft is also implementing better support for solid-state drives,^[51] including the new TRIM command, and Windows 7 will be able to identify a solid-state drive uniquely. Microsoft is also planning to support USB 3.0 in a subsequent patch, although support was not included in the initial release because of delays in the finalization of the standard.^[52]
Internet Spades, Internet Backgammon and Internet Checkers, which were removed from Windows Vista, were restored in Windows 7. Windows 7 includes Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 12.
